At the beginning of eighteenth century, the city was encircled by fortification and many magnificent buildings were built. In 1805 and 1809, Vienna was under the control of Napoleon. With the beginning of twentieth century the city emerged as the cultural and scientific hub. It was hard hit by the World War I as it needed to suffer from food shortage and revolution.
Vienna offers some of the major attractions like the Albertina Art Gallery, Stephansdom and many more. The Stephansdom is one of the worlds most enchanting Gothic cathedrals. This marvelous tower stands at the height of 70m and was redesigned according to the Renaissance aesthetics in 1579. The pulpit is made up of stone which is covered with beautiful and unique sculptures which include a self portrait of Anton Pilgram. The railings exhibit the sculptures of lizards and toads with ‘Dog of the Lord which is considered as it protect the preachers word from evil.
